Andrea Schnitzer

Andrea Schnitzer leads Pew’s work to bring together research and policy in efforts to reduce plastic pollution from packaging and microplastics.

Before joining Pew, Schnitzer worked with the public and private sectors to advance understanding of circular economy solutions—systems that keep materials and products in use for as long as possible, reducing waste and the need for new raw materials—focusing on plastic, organic, and municipal solid waste. She also spent eight years working for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and supported publication of national circular economy strategies covering recycling, food waste, and plastics as well as annual assessments of national municipal solid waste flows.

Schnitzer holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Vassar College and a master’s degree in environmental management from Duke University.
