Susanne Brander
Susanne Brander, Ph.D., directs scientific advancement efforts for Pew’s safer chemicals project, which aims to reduce Americans’ exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
Before joining Pew, Brander served in a tenured faculty role at Oregon State University (OSU) and retains a courtesy faculty appointment in the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences. Brander’s interdisciplinary research over the past 15 years has focused on occurrence and biological effects of stressors, such as endocrine-disrupting compounds and micro- and nanoplastics on aquatic and terrestrial organisms. Brander has published over 100 manuscripts and book chapters on these and related topics. She serves in advisory roles on the Green Ribbon Science Panel advisory team for the California Department of Toxic Substances Control and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Plastics Interest Group and is an observer member of the Scientists’ Coalition for an Effective Plastics Treaty.
Brander holds a B.S. in business administration with a minor in biology from Elizabethtown College, an M.S. in environmental science and policy from Johns Hopkins University, and a doctorate in toxicology and pharmacology from the University of California, Davis.
