The Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD) partnered with the Georgia Department of Public Health to conduct a health impact assessment (HIA) to explore the health impacts associated with the redevelopment of a downtown corridor in Macon, Georgia. The population in the study area faced a variety of health challenges, such as low socioeconomic status and educational achievement, and high rates of crime and chronic disease. Additionally, the corridor included a substantial number of vacant and underutilized industrial properties, and lacked healthy food sources and transportation access to anchor institutions.
