Pew, Patient Groups Urge Congress to Strengthen Oversight of Diagnostic Tests
The VALID Act would reform important federal supervision
On Dec. 12, The Pew Charitable Trusts joined eight groups—representing patients, clinicians, and medical device manufacturers—in submitting a joint letter to leaders of the House and Senate health committees, calling on lawmakers to pass the Verifying Accurate Leading-Edge IVCT Development (VALID) Act as part of their year-end omnibus appropriations package. The legislation would reform federal oversight of diagnostic tests and ensure that all such tests undergo Food and Drug Administration review before reaching the market.
