Brian Watts leads Pew’s research and analysis that informs federal and state energy policy and decision makers. In this role, he works at the intersection of data, environment, and policy, advancing efforts to modernize the grid, scale distributed energy resources, improve reliability, and ensure equitable clean energy deployment. Watts is also focused on reducing the impact of weather-related disasters on communities throughout the United States.

Before joining Pew, Watts analyzed immigration and customs data and relevant policies at Grant Thornton LLP for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He has also taught English in South Korea as a Fulbright scholar and interned at George Mason University’s Center for Climate Change Communication.

Watts holds a bachelor’s degree in ecology from the University of Georgia and master’s degrees in public affairs and environmental science from Indiana University.
