Christophe Chevillon

Dr. Christophe Chevillon leads Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy’s ocean conservation work in New Caledonia, where he collaborates with local communities, government leaders, scientists, and other partners to advance marine protections and strengthen stewardship of the Natural Park of the Coral Sea.

Since 2015, Chevillon has served as president of the nongovernmental organization panel of the Natural Park of the Coral Sea’s advisory board, which brings together representatives from government and local institutions, environmental organizations, Indigenous Kanak communities, NGOs, and the private sector to help guide the park’s management and conservation priorities.

Previously, he led the sea and lagoon protection office in the Environmental Division for New Caledonia’s South Province, where he managed and supervised 24 protected areas and two World Heritage sites. He started his career as a researcher on New Caledonia lagoons for the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development.

Chevillon holds a bachelor’s degree in nature and life sciences from Aix-Marseille University in France, a master’s degree in oceanography and a postgraduate diploma of advanced studies in ocean science from the Marseille Oceanographic Center, and a doctorate in oceanography from Aix-Marseille University.
