Research

In our group, we integrate basic microbiology with biomedical research through three strategic pillars. First, we analyze how the oral microbiome is linked to systemic pathologies, such as diabetes or cardiovascular risk, searching for markers applicable to clinical practice. Second, we identify vulnerabilities in aggressive bacteria to facilitate drug design and the discovery of novel therapeutic targets. Finally, using functional genomics and molecular biology, we study fundamental genetic circuits to reveal unprecedented biological functions. Ultimately, we are passionate about deciphering the complexity of bacteria, their genes, and the ecosystems they form.
