Chilean Patagonia

Situated along the southwestern edge of South America, Chilean Patagonia is renowned for its ancient forests, majestic mountains, fast-flowing rivers, and small but thriving communities.

In Chile, The Pew Charitable Trusts works with a network of civic organizations to promote the conservation of Chilean Patagonia. These organizations include the Patagonia Mar y Tierra working group, the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea, the Initiative for Protected Rivers, the Network of Donor Foundations, and the Gateway Communities Protected Areas strategy group.

Through these collaborative efforts, Pew and its partners are helping to strengthen Chile’s national protected areas system and to encourage public-private cooperation in conserving the region’s vital terrestrial, marine, and freshwater ecosystems.

Pew also supports the Universidad Austral de Chile’s efforts to educate officials and the public about the health and well-being of Patagonia’s ecosystems.
