Research
In our laboratory, we study how synapses function in the mammalian brain, with a particular focus on neuronal compartments such as dendrites, dendritic spines, and axons. We investigate how synaptic plasticity reshapes neuronal properties using genetically encoded activity biosensors, intravital light microscopy, electrophysiology, and optogenetics. Together, these approaches allow us to examine neuronal activity at subcellular resolution and understand how local processes influence cortical circuit function.
We are also interested in how alterations in dendritic spine organelles contribute to neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. By combining molecular genetics, neurophysiology, and super-resolution microscopy, we track the intracellular dynamics and electrical activity of dendritic spines in the mammalian brain. Our goal is to uncover the cellular mechanisms that govern synaptic function and dysfunction in highly prevalent neurological conditions.
