Pew Commends Oregon for Prioritizing Wetlands in Carbon Inventory
Advanced mapping, clear restoration targets, and tribal collaboration can further boost state’s climate resilience
On Dec. 23, The Pew Charitable Trusts submitted comments to the West Virginia Office of Energy on the development of the state’s Comprehensive Energy Policy. Pew commended the draft policy framework for prioritizing transmission and encouraged officials to consider advanced transmission technologies (ATTs) as part of a comprehensive approach to modernizing the state’s grid. Pew’s comments also offered examples of how other states are adopting policies for and deploying ATTs.
ATTs are cost-effective hardware and software solutions that can be installed quickly on new and existing transmission lines to unlock capacity on the grid and maximize existing transmission infrastructure. With energy demand projected to rapidly increase, ATTs can play a significant near-term role in ensuring that new generation projects are able to connect to the grid and that electricity can move efficiently to where it is needed.
